2023 Kitchen & Laundry Trends Lookbook

Kitchens and laundry rooms have become functional spaces filled with creativity and self-expression. When designing and building these areas of the home, it’s important to keep that in mind, along with the trends that are capturing your customers’ attention.

Here’s a look at some of today’s hottest trends in the kitchen and laundry room, with insights from Whirlpool Corporation experts, and how you can bring them to life in your next project.

Kitchen

Reconnecting with nature is popular with both homeowners and renters. Incorporating biophilic design elements such as sunlight, ventilation, and plant growth strengthens their connection to nature even while indoors.

“When it comes to color palettes, we’re expecting a continuation of warm neutrals like earthy beiges from light to dark as well as warm-hued tinted whites and all shades of greens.” -Jessica McConnell, Director, Color, Material & Finish and Product Graphics, Global Consumer Design, Whirlpool Corporation

While stainless steel appliances remain timeless, matte black is another versatile finish that pairs well with wood tones and warm color palettes.

“White oak is quickly becoming one of the most popular wood tones for flooring and cabinetry.” -Jessica McConnell, Director, Color, Material & Finish and Product Graphics, Global Consumer Design, Whirlpool Corporation

Butcher block countertops, which blend well with the biophilic design aesthetic, are also sought-after for their warm look and low maintenance.

“Consumers are cooking in new ways, which means they’re looking for major appliances that accommodate new cooking methods with connected features.” -Michael A Ledford, Sr. Director, Kitchen IoT and Launch at Whirlpool Corporation

The new KitchenAid® 30-inch 4-Element Induction Slide-In Convection Range with Air Fry offers users the power to cook the way they want with more cooking methods in one, including popular air fry capabilities.

Laundry

The laundry room remains the most desirable feature1 for prospective buyers, but they’re more interested in the design of the space than ever.

The laundry room doesn’t have to be boring! In fact, homeowners are loving the addition of fun design elements like bright and bold wallpaper2 to bring more color into the space.

When it comes to flooring, classic patterns like herringbone3 in neutral shades remain a timeless yet elevated choice to tie the entire space together.

“Customers continue to “reinvent” the layout of their laundry rooms with stacking, combination washer-dryers, etc.” -Dylan Binkley, Director of Laundry Product Marketing at Whirlpool Corporation

Consumers are also re-evaluating the location of their laundry appliances for added convenience now that they’re more compact and quieter than ever.4

Standing washer-dryers or all-in-one solutions, like the Whirlpool® 4.5 Cu. Ft. Ventless All In One Washer Dryer, can be tucked into closets, bathrooms or even bedrooms.

“Features that make laundry easier and faster continue to resonate most with consumers, such as hard-working specialized cycles and improved dryer filters that help homeowners better clean up after their pets.” -Dylan Binkley, Director of Laundry Product Marketing at Whirlpool Corporation

The Maytag® Pet Pro System, for example, was designed specifically with pet parents in mind. The washer has the industry’s first pet hair filter that can remove up to 5X* more pet hair from clothes. In the dryer, the Pet Pro option lifts and traps loads of pet hair with an XL lint trap.

*Comparing Normal cycle with Pet Pro Filter and option to cycle using traditional agitator without Pet Pro Filter and option. Results will vary based on fabric and type of pet hair.
