Designing the Entertainer’s Kitchen

Today’s kitchen is the heart and entertainment hub of the home. Families and friends gather around kitchen islands instead of in separate sitting rooms, so it’s especially important that the entertainer’s kitchen is comfortable and thoughtfully planned. Here are three essential design elements to create the ultimate kitchen for entertaining:

Kitchen meets sitting room

In daily life, the kitchen is a central place to gather, often serving as the living room, family room, and office. When families and friends come together to celebrate a special occasion, ample and comfortable seating is a must. Including options such as banquette seating, kitchen islands, and raised countertops or breakfast bars in designs help create natural spaces to gather. Additional details, such as conveniently located under the counter beverage refrigerators and multiple sinks, help both hosts and guests move around easily.

Appliances make life easier

Time is of the essence when entertaining. State of the art appliance benefits such as double wall ovens, large-capacity dishwashers, warming drawers, and the latest connected technology help keep things running smoothly in the kitchen. According to one survey, more than 73 percent of consumers use a smartphone or tablet in the kitchen to assist with choosing a recipe, preparation, and cooking. The new Whirlpool Smart Kitchen Suite allows users to control the appliances remotely through the Whirlpool mobile app* and integrates with voice-controlled connected devices, so hosts can work efficiently and spend more time with family and friends.

Colors and textures create a comfortable, personal space

Because today’s kitchens open up into a large living space, architects must consider the broader environment of the home when designing the kitchen. The entertainer’s kitchen should be inviting while remaining harmonious with adjoining spaces. Satin and matte finishes create continuity from surface to surface, serving to create a soft transition between appliances and the rest of the home. Built-in appliances or harmonious colors also help this transition. For example, the satin finish in the new Whirlpool Fingerprint Resistant Black Stainless Steel Kitchen Suite was designed to blend with various colors and finishes for a sleek, integrated look, creating a cozy, personalized space for both entertainers and their guests.
